  1. When I was a beggarly boy,
  2. And lived in a cellar damp,
  3. I had not a friend nor a toy,
  4. But I had Aladdin's lamp;
  5. When I could not sleep for cold,
  6. I had fire enough in my brain,
  7. And builded with roofs of gold
  8. My beautiful castles in Spain!
  9.
  10. Since then I have toiled day and night,
  11. I have money and power good store,
  12. But, I'd give all my lamps of silver bright
  13. For the one that is mine no more;
  14. Take, Fortune, whatever you choose,
  15. You gave, and may snatch again;
  16. I have nothing 't would pain me to lose,
  17. For I own no more castles in Spain!
